My FIRST Haircut!!!

OK, not my first haircut exactly but the first time I have ever cut hair! :)

(to see a before picture, just scroll down a couple of posts and you'll get a good idea of how LONG his hair really has been! :)

Anyone who knows my boys knows how FAST their hair grows. I like longer hair styles on them but to keep them up is a challenge. Anyone who knows me knows I don't care to PAY for haircuts. My mom was a beautician for most of my life so justifying hair appointments for myself has been hard enough! Mom has cut the boys hair for most of their lives and since we used to see them about once a month I just lived with their hair getting a little bit long while we were waiting to see mom again. Anthony works in VA enough that he's able to stop in and get his, but with Harrison being in school this year, our trips to Ma-maw's haircutting salon have been harder to make and the boys hair has gotten longer, and longer, and longer....
So, the last time we were up in March I asked my mom for some pointers for cutting their hair and watched carefully. Mimi (Anthony's mom) was so excited that I wanted to try this...she doesn't care for long hair on boys and probably thinks they look like ragamuffins half the time that she offered to buy me some scissors and clippers. While she was here this past week, we headed off to ULTA and found a great little haircutting kit with everything I would need...scissors, clippers, and trimmers...and for a GREAT price.
Tonight, I attempted my first haircut on Harrison. He was a very willing participant and thought it was fun that mommy was going to try and cut his hair. I had my mom on the phone to help me through the initial getting started. I thought I may have gotten myself into a problem because when I started doing the clippers on the neck, I was holding them at a downward angle and it got a bit shorter than I had anticipated. Anthony about died thinking I had scalped poor Harrison. However, it was a lot of hair coming off 1. because it was SO long and 2. my position of the clippers. Fixed my hold and finished his neck. Then I moved on to the scissors and it wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. I'm actually quite pleased with his new haircut and excited I'll be able to keep things up a bit more consistently! :) Yeah! I feel like I've really accomplished something tonight! :) I guess I got the hair cutting gene from my mom afterall! :)

It makes me proud to see this awesome haircut, especially knowing you got the talent from me! I was a bit worried when you made that first initial cut with the clippers. It didn't sound so good on the phone but it looks great in pictures. Harrison looks soooooooooooo handsome with his "Mommy Haircut".
Love, Mom

I'm SO impressed!!! The boys both need haircuts desperately...maybe I'll head out tomorrow and get some clippers and try it myself...I can always just buzz it all off for the summer if it's terrible, right? :)

Wow Beth, you did such a great job! Wow I can hardly believe we have a bona-fide beautician in our family now. I'm excited!!! Hey I've got an idea...when I get back to The States for good you can cut my hair too. Not up for that huh??? I know beauticians everywhere look at me when I walk in the door, and you can tell when they look at my thick hair, they're thinking, "Oh no...this is gonna take a while." Harrison's hair looks so good though and I know your Mama must be proud that you are following in her shoes. GO GIRL!

My mom is also a hairdresser and I'm SOOO cheap that I don't like to pay for cuts either!! With mom's foot being so bad we haven't been able to see her for a while! Since Asian hair shows every cut we did pay for Braden, but I've been cutting friends and family hair for years...if you ever want a cut come on over:)In college my friends came to me for cuts:)

It looks GREAT Beth! Once I learned to clipper and scissor cut Kellen's hair, I had a hard time letting him get it done professionally. Now he prefers to have his hair cut at "the waffle house" (aka my bathroom) - back story is that once Geof went in to Great Clips and the hair dresser said "welcome to the waffle house." Geof did a double take and then she explained that she said the wrong thing - that was her other job. Kellen thought it was hysterical and now when I set up for hair cuts he and Geof head up to our own Waffle House.
I WISH my boys had such nice thick hair that I could let grow long. Geof's is long gone, and Kellen's hair just gets big when I let it grow. Oh well. :)

Very good job - he looks very handsome! I can't believe you attempted that, I'm scared to death to cut Erin's bangs! Great Clips 5.99 special is about all I can handle!

Is he a little Anthony or what! You did a great job. I'm too scared to try anything other than a buzz cut. If I mess that up, I can just make it a little shorter.

Wow, Beth, that looks SO good!! I am only used to "buzz cutting" the boys. You could set up your own business just with our Life Class kids. Yeah, as if your life isn't busy enough - right? :)

You did an amazing job. I love his haircut, but honestly, Beth, your boys could grow hair like Moses and still be totally handsome.

Beth, I couldn't resist checking back to read all the comments about your wonderful "First Haircut."
You did such a good job...I got tickled that the only 2 anonymous comments come from your mother and mother-in-law...You and Vonda need to teach us to be who we are in this computer world instead of anonymous. Ha!

You're very brave, I'd be so afraid to even attempt it. I tried cutting Sam's hair once and completely messed it up - and he sat still through the whole process!! You're talented!
